Pineapple is the fruit of the plant Ananas comosus belonging to the Bromeliaceae family. Pineapples, technically, are berries. From the leaves, a fibre can be obtained that is used to produce ropes and textiles.
The gold variety of pineapple, imported from Costa Rica, is very sweet and contains more vitamin C than any other type of pineapple.
Pineapple has depurative and detoxifying properties that facilitate digestion, especially after large, protein-rich meals: this is all due to bromelain, which allows the breakdown of proteins.
Pineapple also contains active ingredients with fibrinolytic action which, by acting at the level of the blood vessels, reduce vasodilation and excessive capillary permeability, situations that can lead to inflammation or localised pain.
