Cashew nuts are the seeds of Anacardium occidentale, a species native to Brazil. Currently, the main producers of cashew nuts are India, Brazil, Mozambique, Tanzania and Nigeria.
Cashews are a source of fatty acids with cardiovascular protective properties and antioxidants that can in turn protect heart and artery health. Copper may also improve antioxidant defences, but not only; this mineral, an essential component of many enzymes, is involved in energy production and the development of bones, connective tissues and melanin in skin and hair. Consumption of cashews may also promote bone health due to the magnesium contained in these seeds, which also helps control nerve and muscle tone, thus combating high blood pressure, muscle spasms, migraines, tension and fatigue.
