The Hass avocado variety originated thanks to the hands of Rudolf Hass who planted some avocado seeds in a small plot in Los Angeles in 1926. Among these plants, a very hardy specimen with darker fruit and wrinkled skin was born.

The Hass variety originally belongs to the Guatemalan race of avocados and precisely has a darker green colouring than other avocados as well as a wrinkled, not smooth skin. The weight of the fruit is around 300 grams, the size is around 18 cm in length and the shape is always periform or slightly oval. The outer skin once the fruit has been harvested begins to ripen to a very dark, almost purplish colour.
