The date is the edible fruit of the date palm (Phoenix dactylifera). It is a fleshy, oblong fruit, 4 to 6 cm long, very energetic.
Due to the fragility and delicacy of the fruit, it is often dried to be transported (from 70% water to 20%). Its energy value, when dried, is 287 kcal per 100 grams. It is a fruit very rich in sugars (glucose, fructose and sucrose), it also contains vitamins (B2, B3, B5 and B6), a small amount of vitamin C and mineral salts (potassium and calcium) and is rich in chromium and fiber.
